Call for witnesses for Iran Truth Commission

Are you an Iranian Baha’i who has suffered persecution in Iran?  Do you know someone who is a victim of abuse at the hands of the Iranian government? Do you have first-hand knowledge of human rights violations or have documentary evidence to show instances of persecution against Baha’is in Iran?

The International Truth Commission on the Persecution of Baha’is in Iran would like to hear from you.

Justice for Iran and the Taslimi Foundation have joined forces with members of the human rights community to give voice to the victims of persecution against Baha’is in Iran and to hold the Iranian government to account for its past and present abuses.

We are a group of lawyers, human rights activists, advocates, members of civil society and ordinary citizens who believe the time has come to shed light on the four-decade long systematic violation of the rights of Baha’i citizens by the Iranian government and challenge the State’s culture of hatred that denies victims the right to live with dignity as citizens. This independent initiative is being organized with the knowledge of Baha’i institutions.

A panel of eminent jurists will gather to hear your stories and join us for a three-day truth-finding tribunal in Toronto, Canada.

We seek to provide a platform for Iranian Baha’is to voice their grievances, present the truth, and seek justice for themselves, their loved ones, and their community in solidarity with all Iranians seeking to build a culture of human rights in which all citizens are treated with equality.

We hope to raise awareness among Iranians about injustices that are happening to their fellow citizens and to hold the Iranian government to account for violation of the rights of its Baha’i citizens including the right to life and liberty, freedom from torture and religious discrimination, the right to education and other economic and social rights, and freedom of belief.

Our hope is that the truth commission will inspire an open discussion on the persecution of Baha’is in Iran and foster a culture of truth-seeking that will ultimately lead to the end of religious persecution by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Truth Commission organizing committee will make the final selection of the witnesses who will testify at the three-day tribunal. While it may not be possible for everyone to testify in person, your story will be featured on our website and become part of a public dialogue that we hope will continue beyond the hearings.

Your stories are crucial in identifying and redressing the legacy of human rights abuses in Iran. If you or someone you know has suffered persecution in Iran, please consider taking part in this project.

We hope to reach as many people as possible, so please share this important message with your friends, family, and communities.

If you are interested in taking part in the International Truth Commission on the Persecution of Baha’is in Iran, please contact us by 30 August 2017.  Be sure to include your name, contact details, and a brief description of the violation. One of our team members will contact you to take your statement.
