When Sleeping Women Wake, Mountains Move

296127_655928397755935_2063761722_n-176x250Justice For Iran—On 8 June 2013, Justice for Iran will host an international symposium on the role of women and mothers in transitional justice. The event marks the 25th anniversary of mass rape, torture and execution of political prisoners, the 4th anniversary of the 2009 post-election arrests and executions as well as the 30th anniversary of the largest group of Baha’i women executed in 1983.

  Entitled “When Women Sleeping Women Wake, Mountains Move,” the one-day event is comprised of a half day symposium and exhibition followed by a gala.The foundation for the symposium will be the launch of a comprehensive report by Justice for Iran on rape and sexual torture of women under the Islamic Republic followed by presentations and panels featuring prominent human rights figures, including the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, renowned human rights law professor, Dr. Payam Akhavan, award-winning feminist journalist and lawyer, Shadi Sadr, and pioneering LGBT rights advocate, Shadi Amin.June 8th events will take place at Regents College in Regents Park.
